It’s been dumping recently in California so we’ve been getting some great snow in the mountains. I was lucky enough to be able to get up on the slopes for my 3rd time this season, which is 3 times more than I went last year (thanks to our drought). I stayed at an Airbnb cabin in the North Star resort area of Tahoe with some gym friends and some new friends. I had a blast! I snowboarded down a few black diamond runs for the first time, so that was exciting! I did take a hard fall though, so after that I was being a bit of a scaredy catwon (har har har. Get it?! My joke’s funny. Laugh).

You know what was awesome during our snow trip? One of my friends has an autoimmune disease! Wait, no. That’s not awesome. However, because of that, she made sure that we had paleo options for every meal and even cooked most of it. Delicious paleo options, might I add! So I wasn’t the only one eating differently, asking for substitutes or feeling bad about wanting or cooking paleo food – because she took all the blame for it. Haha I know eating paleo or having healthier options isn’t a bad thing, AT ALL. I do fully understand, though, when you’re on vacation people like to let go a bit and well, go ape shit over junk food or comfort food. Sometimes, I feel a lot of pressure to join in or people think I’m a downer for not joining in. But you know what? #youdoyou If you feel like it, go for it. If you want to stay strict, good for you!

On our first night in Tahoe, we had homemade bacon burgers. I opted to have a lil’ cheese on mine and just rough it through the mud butt.

I rushed back Sunday morning to make it to one of my best friend’s baby shower. The driving conditions were crazy but I made it! [Snapchat: catwon]

Another awesome thing that happened over the weekend was that someone at the snow cabin was using a portable mini foam roller. I Amazon-Primed the crap out of it and received it first thing Monday morning! Now I can mobilize at work and do more weird things that people stare at me for.

CROSSFIT OPEN WOD 16.3

So, we are now officially more than half way through the Crossfit Open you guuuuuuys. That makes me a little sad! If you’ve been following my blog, you know that my gym, Crossfit Power Grid, has split us into teams for a fun little intramural competition. My team, aka #6and7amCREW, aka the best team, aka the winning team, aka the best looking team, aka probably the most obnoxious team, aka I forgot what I was saying. So to sum it up, my team is awesome and we want to win.

This past week’s weekly challenge was to #WORKHARD and put in extra work. Bonus points were given to the teams who completed a total of 100,000 meters of rowing, and the first team to complete that challenge received extra points. So we immediately jumped on that challenge and went to the gym multiple times a day to try and complete the rowing A-to-the-SAP. However, the #5dirrrty team got there before us. Half of our team tried to Tonya Harding their asses, but no really, good job guys… If they’re reading this… JUST KIDDING. Haha No, really.. good for them! They worked hard and they hit it. We all realized in the past few weeks that when you put a bunch of competitive people together, things could get a little intense. We had to remind ourselves that this is all for fun and we are doing it all with people we like and enjoy spending time with. It’s all about the community and loving what you do.

Here are a few guys from my team messing around on the rowers. We needed to lighten up and have a little fun. :)

This week’s Open workout was 10 snatches at 55# and then 3 bar muscle ups. AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 7 minutes. I didn’t have any bar muscle ups, and as much as I would looooove to tell you that I hit a PR and got a muscle up this past week, it didn’t happen. Haha AND I’M OK WITH IT! I will get there one day. That day was not last Friday.

For team spirit, my #6amcrew decided to get tatted up in solidarity for the workout. We all sported our “Morning Crew” tats.

With the Crossfit Open going on, I’ve been hitting a lot of my fitness goals. I’ve been going to the gym every day, sometimes 2x a day (and I lurrrve it). I admittedly haven’t been strict on my nutrition for the past few weeks. It’s caught up with me and I’m feeling it a bit. So, I’m acknowledging that and I’m working on it. I started to beat myself up about it, but that really does no good. I have been working extra hard on my professional goals and just putting a lot of time in to get to a good place. I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t keep all 3 of my goals up at 100% in the last 2.5 months but I’m okay with that. Tomorrow’s always a new day. It’s never too late to start or get back on track. Also, if you always try to do everything everyday perfectly, you’ll burn yourself out. I’m working on letting myself make mistakes and getting through those, learning from each event/moment/issue.

STEAK & SPICY SWEET POTS

Last night, I made some pretty basic paleo food. Steak. Veggies. Sweet Pots. I’m all about that bass. I mean, I’m all about simple cooking – just cooking real food and making it easy. I don’t like complicated dishes or recipes, and I also don’t like to substitute a ton of ingredients for obscure ingredients that no one actually owns or knows where to buy that also cost a ton. If this is supposed to be a long-lasting lifestyle change, it needs to be realistic and attainable, not a time-consuming and overly complicated mess in the kitchen and in your wallet.

STEAK

These are grass-fed babies that I got from my gym’s meat draft. All I did was sear the steak on both sides, on medium high heat in grass-fed clarified butter/ghee (I used OMGhee brand). Topped with seat salt, pepper and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

BROCCOLI & SUGAR SNAP PEAS

Baked these for 15-18 minutes at 350 degrees. I used olive oil and sprinkled some sea salt and onion powder on them.

SPICY SWEET POTS

My favorite way to eat my sweet pots is with sea salt, paprika, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper and chili powder. Coat your sweet pots with your fav fat then be as generous with the cayenne and chili powder as you’d like. Bake for up to 30 min at 375 degrees.

P.S. I used Japanese sweet potatoes.

People complain about Daylight Saving’s Time but I’m loving it. I’ve been able to catch a little sunlight with this little big guy the last few days and he’s been loving it too!
